mySugr’s 10-year anniversary
Vienna is probably best known for its coffee house culture, empress Sisi, or the rich tradition in art and music - and for more than 10 years as the home of one of the most popular diabetes management apps. In 2012, Frank Westermann, Fredrik Debong, Gerald Stangl, and Michael Forisch founded mySugr and launched the first version of the mySugr app. What began as a start-up with a handful of employees, has grown into a global company that became part of Roche in 2017, supporting people with diabetes all over the world managing their diabetes. Today, the mySugr app has more than 4 million registered users worldwide and is available in over 80 countries and 24 languages.

Meet Chris! Chris is one of our models living with diabetes. Chris was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes three years ago after having lost his dad and grandfather to diabetes. Initially taking this as a death sentence back then, he is nowadays managing his diet, taking medication, and monitoring his blood sugar levels so that he can not only live longer, but do the things he thought he might not ever be able to do again: race yachts around the globe, and solo expedition races.

Say hello to Philipp. Philipp was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes right after knee surgery in 2005 and his diagnosis was like a little odyssey. Before we jump into the interview with our model Philipp, here is what he shared with us about his diagnosis journey.

Say hello to Ricky. Ricky not only works for mySugr as Data Scientist but is also one of our mySugr models living with type 1 diabetes. Ricky was also member of Team Bike Beyond and biked across the USA from New York to San Francisco in 2017 showing that anything is possible with type 1.

Meet Jessica, one of our models living with type 2 diabetes. Jessica was not surprised by her diagnosis in 2014. She is a Native American and had many relatives with type 2 diabetes, and knew her risk for developing diabetes was very high.
